Thank you, Pocatello, Idaho Falls, and Salmon, for welcoming us so warmly. It was truly a pleasure to meet everyone who attended our Radiation Exposure Compensation Act (RECA) workshops last week. Thank you to the City of Pocatello, Melaleuca, and the Elk’s Lodge for hosting the workshops! We are so appreciative of your help.

We’re also deeply grateful to the staff of Senators Crapo and Risch, and Representative Simpson, for showing up and lending a hand. Seeing our leaders and community members come together to support fellow Idahoans reminds us of what we can accomplish when we unite. And the results speak for themselves—last week alone, we helped roughly 700 people apply for their compensation!

So, how did this all begin? When Idaho Downwinders learned that out-of-state businesses were charging people thousands of dollars for doing next to nothing, we knew something had to change. That’s when Snake River Alliance and Shannon Carter—a downwinder and administrator for the Twin Falls County commissioner—saw the overwhelming need and stepped up to help. And just like that, the RECA Roadshow was born.

Our mission is simple:
  • Educate Idahoans about the RECA program,
  • Empower them to submit their own applications for free, and
  • Motivate others to support their neighbors in doing the same.

What is RECA?

The Radiation Exposure Compensation Act was extended last year to include all of Idaho.
It provides financial compensation and a formal apology to individuals whose health was affected by radiation from nuclear weapons testing in Nevada and New Mexico.

Who qualifies?

If you or a family member lived in Idaho for at least one year between 1951 and 1962 (or for the entire month of July 1962, when testing peaked) and later developed certain cancers, you may be eligible for $100,000. Even if the downwinder has passed away, surviving direct family members may receive the benefit.
This is real, and it’s already happening. Some Idahoans have already received their payments.
A word of caution:
Some companies are charging up to $9,000 just to submit your paperwork. Please—don’t throw your money away. We’re here to help you for free, with no strings attached.
If you or someone you know needs free assistance or resources, visit the Idaho Downwinders page on our website, follow Idaho Downwinders on Facebook, and check out our events page for the next workshop near you.

Together, we can make sure every eligible Idahoan gets the help they deserve—without paying a penny.
