The Snake River Alliance board of directors has chosen Andrea Shipley of Boise as executive director to succeed Jeremy Maxand, who left last summer to pursue other personal and professional interests.
“We are very excited to have Andrea lead the Snake River Alliance. Her background in solution based planning is a perfect fit for the seamless integration of our new sustainable energy program and our protection of the Snake River Aquifer as the grassroots watchdog of the Idaho National Laboratory for the last 29 years,” said Deborra Bohrer, Snake River Alliance, board president.
“I’m thrilled to be part of an organization working for a cleaner, healthier Idaho,” Shipley said. “It’s an opportunity to work with a talented and brilliant group of leaders on an issue of great importance to this state’s future.”
“Today, more than ever, it is critical to work on common ground to find sustainable, clean energy while continuing to educate Idahoans on the multi-generational impacts of nuclear waste from the production of nuclear power. As a state, we are rich in multiple renewable energy sources, each a way to boost Idaho’s economy in rural places.”
Shipley came from Montana in 2003 where she worked as a community organizer. Since moving to Idaho she has worked in a variety of capacities at local nonprofit agencies. She has a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Montana, associate degree in journalism from Northwest Community College, and is a graduate of the Western State’s Center’s Western Institute for organizing and Leadership Development. She has extensive experience both as a community organizer, advocate, fundraiser and neighborhood activist.
“Andrea has proven her ability to turn thought into action. She can see the big picture, which is critical to the work ahead. She’ll be a wonderful asset as we work towards a solution to nuclear waste and nuclear power in Idaho,” said Beatrice Brailsford, program director.
The Snake River Alliance is a nonprofit organization working towards energy solutions for Idaho and dedicated to serving as Idaho’s nuclear watchdog.
